Recent Update
The Occupy Melbourne Legal Support Team urge anyone arrested, or who witnessed or experienced police brutality to make contact with us. Together
we stand stronger! We have seen some horrendous police brutality over the past few days and highly recommend everyone do some self care. If you were injured (in body or mind) take yourself to a health professional and have your injuries documented. This can also become important evidence. Write down your experiences while they are fresh in your mind and make contact with us to write a detailed statement. Get images and videos to us as well that document the incidents. Occupy Melbourne Legal Support is here to help you. We will do the very best we can to account for and redress some of the harm that has been inflicted by Victoria Police and those who gave the directions. Make contact via 0434126515 or OccupyMelbourneLegal@gmail.com and solidarity to you all.
We are calling for a full inquiry into the excessive use of police force shown on Friday towards the peaceful protesters at Occupy Melbourne. We Will
also work to identify other possible actions to redress the harm suffered by protesters in Friday's shocking display of police violence.
Property Confiscated by Council
A small proportion of the confiscated property can be retrieved from: 'Spotless Depot' , 197 Kensington Rd, North Melbourne, between 9am and
4pm. This property must be collected before Friday October 24 or it will be destroyed!
We are sorry to report that much of the property confiscated by the police on behalf of Melbourne City Council appears to have been destroyed. We
believe this to have been unlawful. If your property was destroyed, please detail a list of everything that was taken and email it with your name, your
phone number and the word 'PROPERTY' in the subject line to OccupyMelbourneLegal@gmail.com
Legal Observers Training: Thursday 23rd of October
Legal Observers are needed to provide handouts on legal information, provide demonstrators with phone numbers for legal support, track arrests and
policing incidents and collate information for ongoing legal support and or arrestee solidarity.
Legal Observers are vital to create a feeling of safety, to allow people to make informed decisions about their actions and to observe police tactics and promote accountability.
Renowned non-violent-direct-action trainer and peace activist Anthony Kelly will be providing a full days training for interested persons on Thursday
the 23rd of October. This is an excellent opportunity to get some free, first class training and to empower yourself to assist others as a legal observer for Occupy Melbourne.
